Cartagena for Two

Why this city, why this way

Cartagena de Indias was built for romance long before that was a travel category. Its walled old city, with streets so narrow that colonial buildings seem to lean toward each other overhead, creates an intimacy that larger or more visited destinations simply cannot manufacture. You turn a corner and find a courtyard full of bougainvillea and no one else. You sit at a table on a rooftop as the sun falls into the Caribbean and the city’s amber and ochre walls glow from below. A few hundred metres away, the sea. This is a city that rewards slowness, and every couples experience we design is built around that quality of unhurried attention.

Before we design your program, we have a conversation. What is the occasion — an anniversary, a milestone, a first visit to South America? Are you here primarily for the city’s culture and architecture, or for the sea? Do you want structured days with expert guidance, or open afternoons to move at your own pace? Your answers shape everything: the hotels we recommend, the guides we engage, the sequence of activities, the restaurants we reserve. Nothing in your program is lifted from a template, because no two couples are the same and no two visits to Cartagena should be.

Most couples who research Cartagena independently encounter the same friction: restaurants that appear on every list but prove impossible to book without a local contact; boats that claim to be private but share their deck with strangers; guides who deliver tour scripts rather than genuine knowledge of the city they live in. What CGLUX provides is access — to the people, the places, and the version of Cartagena that exists behind its surface. We have spent years building these relationships so that you don’t have to. Your time here should feel effortless. That is not an accident. It is the result of a great deal of work done before you arrived.

A Day in Your Program

What a day in Cartagena actually looks like

Morning

Your guide meets you at the hotel at nine. The walled city before eleven belongs almost entirely to you — the light is still soft, the streets quiet, and the colour of the facades shifts from terracotta to gold as the sun climbs. You enter a courtyard that tourists walk past without knowing it exists. An hour later, a coffee at a small place we know on a street that isn’t in any guidebook.

Afternoon

The boat leaves at noon. Your captain has prepared a route past the old city walls by sea, then south toward the Rosario Islands — forty minutes of open Caribbean. The catering is already on board. You anchor in a bay that no group charter reaches. The water is clear to the bottom. The afternoon is entirely yours.

Evening

Your table is on the rooftop of one of the old city’s finest colonial houses. Reserved at 7:30, with a small detail arranged for the occasion. Your waiter has been briefed. The menu discussed in advance. The city lies below you, lit amber and gold. All you carry is each other.
